The month of May happens to be National Pet Month with an additional National Pet Week and Be Kind to Animals Week happening the first week of the month. May 20 is also National Rescue Dog Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History of National Pet Month<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first National Pet Month was organized in 2006 by the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters2 (NAPPS). The initial purpose of observing National Pet Month was to recognize the bond between humans and animals and promote responsible pet ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Pet Month celebrations have evolved and grown in diverse ways over the years. Many pet product companies offer product promotions. Local businesses also offer discounts for holding charity events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Dog Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Dog Day is celebrated every year on May 20th. The day was created in 2010 by pet lifestyle expert and author Colleen Paige. Paige is also the founder of National Dog Week, National Cat Day, and National Mutt Day. The day is meant to celebrate all dogs, mixed breed and purebred alike, and to encourage adoption from shelters and rescue organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


It\u2019s also a day to acknowledge the work of service dogs, police dogs, military dogs, and therapy dogs. In addition to celebrating our furry friends, it is also a day to promote dog adoption and responsible dog ownership, and a day to thank shelter and rescue workers and veterinarians for their tireless efforts in caring for homeless dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Rescue Dog Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Rescue Dog Day is celebrated each year on May 20th. Its goal is to promote the adoption of dogs from shelters, rescue organizations, and pounds. There are an estimated<\/p>\n\n\n\n

three million dogs in shelters across the United States waiting to be adopted. That\u2019s a lot of dogs in need of homes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We encourage dog lovers to support and help these needy dogs however they can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
