Happy Dog celebrating New Years.

Welcome to 2026! It’s time to set the tone for an amazing year for you and your pets. Check out some of our recommendations from the team at Blue Ravine Animal Hospital for pet New Year’s resolutions:

From the Outside In

Winter nights in Folsom can get down near freezing, which can lead to dry, itchy skin. Hot, dry summers can be just as tough on a pet’s skin and coat. You need to find a grooming routine with appropriate bathing frequency and regular brushing to keep your dog or cat happy and comfortable. Consider speaking with our professional grooming staff about what is best for your pet during every season of this year.

Pet Dental Health Month

Early in the year, we celebrate February as Pet Dental Health Month, but that doesn’t mean you take care of your pet’s teeth for just one month. If you want a healthy pet in 2026 (and beyond), you should make routine teeth brushing a priority. You can also provide dental chews as fun treats. Just be sure that any product you use is made exclusively and safely for pets. If your veterinary team recommends a professional dental cleaning with X-rays, be sure to follow  through and make that appointment.

Fitness and Nutrition

Are you making a fitness resolution for yourself as the new year gets underway? Make one for your pets, too!

At your pet’s next wellness visit, let us know what your dog or cat’s regular activity looks like. Do you have an active puppy who needs several walks a day? How about a strong adult cat who blows through toys and scratching posts? Or maybe your senior pet looks forward to more and more naps as they age. Based on your important input, alongside a comprehensive exam, we can talk about routines to keep and adjustments to make for your best furry friend.

Good nutrition will complement healthy exercise, and we’re happy to talk with you about daily meals, appropriate treats, and even prescription diets.

Diet and exercise might also need to change with different weather patterns, travel, aging, and all kinds of factors. Keep that in mind as you resolve to help your pet stay fit all year long.

Wellness Services

Pet wellness goals are easier to reach and maintain when you have the right team on your side. We at Blue Ravine Animal Hospital want to partner with you to keep up with important wellness services. Preventive care is meant to protect your pet as much as possible from diseases and parasites. You can plan your calendar for the entire year when it comes to due dates for vaccines, heartworm testing, fecal exams, and parasite prevention. It is vital to stay on time because lapses in these services can open up windows of vulnerability. We may even need to run routine tests more frequently to ensure that preventive measures are safe. Resolve to be disciplined about your dog or cat’s doctor visit schedule!

We can help you review your pet’s records and then make appointments based on medical history. We’re excited to see you and your pet this year and in years to come!
